Arab Media & Society

For Authors

DOI Policy

How Digital Object Identifiers are assigned, used, and maintained for all published content.

Arab Media & Society assigns a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to every peer-reviewed article published in the journal. A DOI is a unique, permanent alphanumeric string that provides a persistent link to an article's location on the internet. By assigning DOIs, we ensure that all published research remains discoverable, citable, and accessible regardless of changes to the journal's website or hosting platform.

What is a DOI?

A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a standardized identification system managed by the International DOI Foundation (IDF). Each DOI is unique and is permanently associated with the content it identifies. Unlike standard URLs, which may change over time, a DOI provides a stable, long-term link to an article. DOIs follow the format: https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx, where the prefix identifies the registrant (publisher) and the suffix identifies the specific article.

DOIs are widely recognized across academic databases, citation indexes, and library systems. They are essential for accurate citation tracking, inclusion in reference management tools, and integration with indexing services such as Scopus, Crossref, and Google Scholar.

DOI Assignment

Arab Media & Society registers DOIs through Crossref, one of the world's leading DOI registration agencies for scholarly content. A DOI is assigned to each peer-reviewed article upon acceptance and final publication. The DOI is included on the article's landing page, in its metadata, and in the published PDF. Authors are encouraged to use their article's DOI when citing or sharing their work, as it guarantees a permanent and reliable link to the published version.

Citing with DOIs

Authors submitting manuscripts to Arab Media & Society are strongly encouraged to include DOIs in their reference lists wherever available. Including DOIs in citations improves the accuracy and traceability of references, facilitates automated linking between publications, and ensures readers can locate the cited sources quickly and reliably. When citing an article that has a DOI, the DOI should be included at the end of the reference entry in the format: https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx.

Persistence and Maintenance

Once assigned, a DOI is permanent and will continue to resolve to the article's location even if the journal's website undergoes changes or migration. Arab Media & Society is responsible for maintaining and updating DOI metadata to ensure that all links remain functional. In the event that an article is retracted or corrected, the DOI will continue to resolve to a landing page that clearly indicates the article's current status, including any retraction notices or correction statements.

Scope of DOI Coverage

DOIs are assigned to all peer-reviewed research articles accepted for publication in Arab Media & Society. This includes articles published in both English and Arabic across all issues of the journal. The journal is also working to retrospectively assign DOIs to previously published articles in order to ensure comprehensive coverage of the entire archive. Book reviews, editorials, and non-peer-reviewed content may also receive DOIs at the discretion of the editorial team.
