Plagiarism Policy

Our standards for originality, proper attribution, and the procedures for handling suspected plagiarism.

Arab Media & Society is committed to publishing original scholarly work of the highest quality. Plagiarism in any form constitutes a serious violation of academic ethics and undermines the integrity of the research community. The journal maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism and employs rigorous screening measures to detect it at every stage of the editorial process.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the use of another person's ideas, words, data, or other creative work without proper acknowledgment or attribution. This includes, but is not limited to: reproducing text verbatim or in substantially similar form without quotation marks and citation; paraphrasing another author's work without adequate attribution; presenting another researcher's data, methodology, or findings as one's own; and self-plagiarism, which involves reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without disclosure or proper citation.

All forms of plagiarism are treated equally seriously, regardless of whether the act was intentional or the result of carelessness. Authors are expected to ensure that all sources are properly cited and that any reproduced components, including text, figures, tables, and data, are accompanied by appropriate permissions and acknowledgments.

Detection and Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Arab Media & Society are screened for plagiarism using industry-standard plagiarism detection software prior to peer review. Submissions that show significant overlap with existing published work will be flagged for further investigation. In addition, our peer reviewers are experienced scholars who are well-positioned to identify unattributed content within their areas of expertise. If plagiarism is suspected at any point during the review or post-publication process, the matter will be referred to the Editor for immediate investigation.

Procedures for Handling Plagiarism

When plagiarism is suspected, the Editor will conduct a preliminary assessment. The author will be contacted and given an opportunity to respond to the allegation with a clear explanation. If the case is confirmed, the following actions may be taken depending on the severity of the violation: the manuscript may be immediately rejected and returned to the author; if the article has already been published, a formal retraction notice will be issued and the article will be removed from the journal's online platform; the author's institution or funding body may be notified; and the author may be barred from submitting to the journal for a defined period.

Self-Plagiarism and Duplicate Submission

Authors must certify that their manuscripts have not been submitted or published elsewhere. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is a serious breach of publishing ethics. Similarly, authors should not reuse substantial portions of their own previously published work without proper disclosure and citation. Where a submission builds upon the author's earlier work, the relationship must be clearly stated and the prior publication must be cited. The journal reserves the right to reject or retract any submission found to involve duplicate publication.

Author Responsibilities

Authors bear full responsibility for the originality of their work. By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work is their own, that all sources have been properly acknowledged, and that any necessary permissions for the use of third-party material have been obtained. Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management tools and to carefully review their manuscripts for proper attribution before submission. Should any errors or issues be discovered following submission or publication, authors must immediately notify the editors so that corrections may be made.
